Friday AM – very early awakening and off to the airport with our Chauffeur Gayle (who graciously picked us up at 5:30 AM).
Flight to ATL uneventful then the inevitable delay waiting for our plane to arrive. Off to LAX 1 and 1/2 hours late and arrived at the Airport Marriott about 2 PM. Quick showers and naps and then awaiting the arrival of Walter and Barbara for dinner. Walt is a long time Host on Cruise Critic and a UNC grad. We’ve had a virtual friendship some time but this was to be our first Face 2 Face meeting.
We enjoyed talking with a couple from NZ in the bar while waiting for the Tuthills. And what an arrival it was. Walt brought their drinks to our table and immediately knocked over his Cabernet directly into my lap, onto my jacket…etc. An auspicious beginning to a new friendship. While ‘they’ and the staff cleaned up, I returned to our room to change my clothes. So much for not wanting to unpack before we got to Hawaii. Lots of laughs (and apologies) that set the stage for a fun evening of talk and laughter. We’re looking forward to our next meeting when Art says – the wine will be on Walt literally and figuratively :) .

Next Leg – LAX-HNL
Woke up early on Saturday morning – typically east coast to west coast time change and decided to shower, dress and go to the airport early. The Hawaiian Airlines terminal was uncrowded, reasonably quick TSA experience, quick breakfast (not much for us to eat since it’s Passover and most of the breakfast foods are bread/pastry oriented), and a fun conversation with a family of four whose 10 year old son was flying for the first time and very nervous. Hawaiian Air experience is very pleasant (friendly gate and flight attendants, small complimentary meals, and nice seating arrangements). Art ordered a Sushi meal ($12) that was remarkably good and worth the price.
One strange experience is that there wa a charge for the use of Headsets whether you use theirs or your own.
