Thursday - Up at 7:30 and off to Foresteria

Slept like proverbial babies; awoke on my own and felt like a new person; no jet lag, lots of energy. Met 'the gang' for a good buffet breakfast; dragged a huge amount of luggage for 9 people to the lobby and were picked up by Lucca for a 2 1/2 hour drive to Arezzo and our agriturismo for the week - Foresteria Il Giardino di Fontarronco. Lovely drive; much excitement as we saw the first Tuscan Hills and walled hill town; after a brief stop on the road, we arrived and were met by Marian at the entrance to the property. Our group is staying at 2 apartments in this beautiful old villa (one 3 bedroom and one 4 bedroom - with 2 of the bedrooms empty for either snoring husbands OR arguments among spouses :)). Also have a loft in the kitchen with a single bed that we've entitled 'the naughty room'.

I'll add pictures over the rest of the week after editing - but suffice it to say that we love feeling like we like in a 'real' Italian villa and I, for one, am in heaven! The chef is making a special meal for us tonight which we booked in advance so that we wouldn't have to go out to find a restaurant on our first night. Joanie, Bob and Tom went to Arrezo to pick up our cars for the week. We will head out to the first of the Tuscan villages tomorrow...with no specific plans except to visit Florence on Tuesday. And so it goes as we begin our long awaited sojourn in Tuscany.

PS Neglected to say that we met two couples who are staying here and, also, going on our cruise. AND we had a most wonderful dinner (Zucchini Soufflee, Rigitona, Florentine Bifsteak, and Tiramassou accompanied by Prosecco, wine, Vin Sante, and Coffee prepared by the Chef and elegantly served by Marian and her assistant. lovely way to end our first day.

  1. Just sounds awesome - and I can't believe your "lost" bag was the first one off!
